build.drainage-slope Calculator
Calculates minimum pipe slope for gravity drainage from pipe diameter, flow rate, and Manning's roughness coefficient to ensure self-cleaning velocity. A minimum slope of 1% (1 cm per metre) is the code minimum for most residential drain lines — shallower slopes cause solids to settle.
Inputs
Pipe Dia Mm
Internal diameter of the pipe. Larger diameter reduces velocity and pressure drop but increases material cost.
Length M
Linear measurement. Ensure consistent units: 1 m = 1,000 mm = 3.281 ft.
Slope Pct
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Roughness
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
flow velocity (m/s)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
flow rate (L/s)
The value at the specified point or condition.
fall over length (mm)
The computed linear length.
Manning formula
The specific form or variant of the result.
min slope residential
The gradient -- rise divided by run. In finance, rate of change per unit time.
