build.footing-size Calculator
Calculates minimum footing area and depth from column load and allowable soil bearing capacity. The allowable bearing pressure of typical residential soils is 1,500–3,000 psf — exceeding it causes differential settlement.
Inputs
Column Load
Applied force or weight (N or kN). Divide into dead load (permanent) and live load (variable — people, wind, etc.).
Soil Bearing
Maximum throughput or storage. Operating near 100% capacity typically increases failures and wait times.
Footing Depth
Vertical extent downward, or thickness of a layer. For tanks: affects pressure at the base (P = ρgh).
Soil Unit Wt
Body or object weight. For health calculators, usually in kg or lbs.
Results
required area (m^2)
The computed two-dimensional surface area.
footing size B (m)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
net bearing capacity (kPa)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
footing self-weight (kN)
The computed weight (gravitational force) or mass.
total load (kN)
The combined total across all inputs and components.
revised B
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
