eng.adc-resolution-snr Calculator
Calculates ADC SNR (6.02N + 1.76 dB for an ideal N-bit converter) and effective number of bits (ENOB) from measured SNR. Each additional ADC bit theoretically adds 6.02 dB of dynamic range — a 12-bit ADC has 74 dB of ideal dynamic range.
Inputs
Bits
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Vref V
Electric potential difference (V). Drives current through a circuit. Household: 120 V (US) or 230 V (EU/UK).
Noise Mv
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
LSB (voltage per bit)
Electric potential difference between the two terminals (V). In AC systems, quoted as RMS — 230 V mains has a peak of ~325 V.
ideal SNR (dB)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
ENOB with noise
Random or irrelevant variation in the measurement.
dynamic range (dB)
The difference between the maximum and minimum values.
SNR = 6.02N + 1.76 dB
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
12-bit ADC
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
