eng.BOD-removal-efficiency Calculator
Calculates first-order BOD decay and effluent BOD concentration in a reactor from influent BOD, HRT, and reaction rate. First-order BOD removal kinetics: BOD_out = BOD_in / (1 + k × HRT) — doubling HRT doesn't double removal due to diminishing returns.
Inputs
Bod Influent Mg L
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Bod Effluent Mg L
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Flow Rate M3 Day
Volume of fluid per unit time. Used to size pipes, pumps, and ducts.
Hrt Hours
Duration of the process. Make sure units match the rate inputs (seconds, minutes, or hours).
Results
BOD removal efficiency
Useful output divided by total input, as a percentage. True 100% efficiency is impossible — losses appear as heat. LEDs: 30–50%. Electric motors: 85–97%. Switching supplies: 85–95%.
BOD removed (kg/day)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
reactor volume (m³)
The computed three-dimensional volume.
effluent BOD₅ (mg/L)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
discharge standard
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
efficiency = (BODin - BODout)/BODin × 100%
Useful output divided by total input, as a percentage. True 100% efficiency is impossible — losses appear as heat. LEDs: 30–50%. Electric motors: 85–97%. Switching supplies: 85–95%.
