eng.earthwork-volume-prismatoid Calculator
Calculates cut and fill earthwork volumes from end-area measurements using the prismatoid formula, and determines the shrinkage/swell correction. Bank measure (in situ) volume multiplied by a swell factor (typically 1.10–1.25 for soil) gives the loose measure volume for truck loading.
Inputs
Area Start M2
Two-dimensional surface extent (m²). For complex shapes, break into simpler sub-shapes and sum.
Area Middle M2
Two-dimensional surface extent (m²). For complex shapes, break into simpler sub-shapes and sum.
Area End M2
Two-dimensional surface extent (m²). For complex shapes, break into simpler sub-shapes and sum.
Length M
Linear measurement. Ensure consistent units: 1 m = 1,000 mm = 3.281 ft.
Results
volume (prismatoid formula, m³)
The computed three-dimensional volume.
volume (average end area, m³)
The arithmetic mean -- sum divided by count.
prismatoid vs avg end area difference
The arithmetic difference between the two values.
prismatoid formula
The specific form or variant of the result.
typical earthwork cost
The total monetary cost computed for the given inputs.
swell factor
A dimensionless multiplier applied in the calculation.
