eng.emi-conducted-emissions Calculator
Calculates conducted EMI emission level and required insertion loss for an EMI filter from converter switching frequency and CISPR limits. CISPR 32 conducted emission limits apply from 150 kHz to 30 MHz — power electronics designers must characterise the noise spectrum to size the CM and DM filter.
Inputs
Supply Current A
Rate of charge flow (A). I = V/R. Above ~100 mA through the body can be lethal. Fuses protect against overcurrent.
Lead Inductance Nh
Opposition to changing current (H). Inductors store energy in a magnetic field and cause voltage spikes when current is interrupted.
Frequency Mhz
Cycles per second (Hz). Audible sound: 20 Hz – 20 kHz. Make sure units match what the formula expects.
Filter Attenuation Db
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
conducted emission (dBµV)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
inductive spike voltage
Electric potential difference between the two terminals (V). In AC systems, quoted as RMS — 230 V mains has a peak of ~325 V.
after filter (V)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
CISPR 22 Class B limit
The classification assigned based on the computed value.
Z_L = 2πfL
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
ferrite bead
