eng.orifice-meter-flow Calculator
Calculates flow rate through an orifice meter using the ISO 5167 standard discharge coefficient correlation. ISO 5167 orifice meter accuracy is ±0.5–1% when installed with required upstream straight lengths — typically 20–40 pipe diameters of undisturbed flow upstream.
Inputs
D Pipe Mm
Internal diameter of the pipe. Larger diameter reduces velocity and pressure drop but increases material cost.
D Orifice Mm
Distance across a circle through its centre. Always confirm units match the rest of the calculation.
Dp Kpa
Force per unit area (Pa). Atmospheric pressure at sea level: 101,325 Pa. Check whether gauge or absolute pressure is required.
Rho Kg M3
Mass per unit volume (kg/m³). Water: 1,000. Air: 1.225. Steel: 7,850. Affects buoyancy, flow, and structural loads.
Results
volumetric flow Q (m³/s)
The computed three-dimensional volume.
flow rate Q (L/s)
Flow rate Q — the volume of fluid passing a point per unit time.
flow rate Q (m³/hr)
Flow rate Q — the volume of fluid passing a point per unit time.
pipe velocity v (m/s)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
beta ratio β = d/D
The proportional relationship between two quantities.
Q = Cd·A₀·√(2ΔP/ρ/(1-β⁴))
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
