eng.propeller-thrust Calculator
Calculates propeller thrust from pitch, diameter, and RPM using the simplified formula for small aircraft propellers. Propeller static thrust (at V=0) is maximum — as airspeed increases, the advance ratio increases and efficiency falls until windmilling occurs at zero thrust.
Inputs
Diameter M
Distance across a circle through its centre. Always confirm units match the rest of the calculation.
Pitch M
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Rpm
Rate of movement. 1 m/s = 3.6 km/h = 2.237 mph.
Slip Pct
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Water Density
Mass per unit volume (kg/m³). Water: 1,000. Air: 1.225. Steel: 7,850. Affects buoyancy, flow, and structural loads.
Results
thrust T (kN)
Forward propulsive force generated by the engine or motor. Net thrust = gross thrust minus inlet momentum drag.
advance velocity va (m/s)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
advance ratio J
The proportional relationship between two quantities.
thrust coefficient KT
Forward propulsive force generated by the engine or motor. Net thrust = gross thrust minus inlet momentum drag.
