eng.sewer-flow-capacity Calculator
Calculates sewer pipe flow capacity at full and partial flow using Manning's equation and checks for minimum self-cleansing velocity. Gravity sewers must maintain minimum velocity of 0.6–0.9 m/s at peak flow to prevent sediment deposition — this constrains minimum slope.
Inputs
Diameter M
Internal diameter of the pipe. Larger diameter reduces velocity and pressure drop but increases material cost.
Slope
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Manning N
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Flow Depth Ratio
Vertical extent downward, or thickness of a layer. For tanks: affects pressure at the base (P = ρgh).
Results
partial flow Q (m³/s)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
full-flow capacity (m³/s)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Q/Q_full ratio
The proportional relationship between two quantities.
