eng.shaft-power Calculator
Calculates shaft power, torque, angular velocity, and efficiency from motor power or turbine output data. Shaft power P = Tω — at a given power, increasing RPM reduces torque, which determines the shaft and coupling design.
Inputs
Torque
Rotational force (N·m) = force × perpendicular lever arm. Engine torque peaks at lower RPM; horsepower peaks higher.
Rpm
Rate of movement. 1 m/s = 3.6 km/h = 2.237 mph.
Efficiency
Useful output divided by total input, as a percentage. 100% is impossible due to losses (heat, friction, resistance).
Hours
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
shaft power (kW)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
input power needed (kW)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
angular velocity (rad/s)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
efficiency loss (kW)
Useful output divided by total input, as a percentage. True 100% efficiency is impossible — losses appear as heat. LEDs: 30–50%. Electric motors: 85–97%. Switching supplies: 85–95%.
annual energy (kWh)
The result expressed on a per-year basis.
P = T * omega
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
