food.crop-water-stress-index Calculator
Calculates the Crop Water Stress Index (CWSI) from canopy temperature and air temperature, a precision agriculture metric for detecting water deficit before visible wilting occurs. CWSI above 0.5 indicates significant stress — irrigation should be triggered.
Inputs
Canopy Temp C
Thermal state of the substance. Check whether the formula needs Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin (K = °C + 273.15).
Air Temp C
Thermal state of the substance. Check whether the formula needs Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin (K = °C + 273.15).
Vpd Kpa
Force per unit area (Pa). Atmospheric pressure at sea level: 101,325 Pa. Check whether gauge or absolute pressure is required.
Aerodynamic Resistance S M
Opposition to current flow (Ω). V = IR. Resistors in series add; in parallel their reciprocals add.
Results
CWSI (0=no stress, 1=max stress)
Internal force per unit area (Pa or MPa). Must stay below yield strength in service. Beyond yield: permanent deformation. Beyond tensile strength: fracture.
canopy-air ΔT (°C)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
lower limit ΔT
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
upper limit ΔT
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
CWSI > 0.5
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Idso (1981) CWSI
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
