health.muscle-moment-arm Calculator
Calculates the muscle moment arm and mechanical advantage for a given joint configuration from muscle insertion angle and bone length. Moment arm changes with joint angle — this is why strength curves are non-linear and why some exercises feel harder at certain positions.
Inputs
F Muscle N
Push or pull (N). F = ma. Net force determines acceleration. Account for all forces including gravity and friction.
Body Weight N
Body or object weight. For health calculators, usually in kg or lbs.
D Muscle Mm
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
D Joint Mm
Applied force or weight (N or kN). Divide into dead load (permanent) and live load (variable — people, wind, etc.).
Results
mechanical advantage MA
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
muscle moment (N·m)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
external moment (N·m)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
net joint moment (N·m)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
MA = d_muscle/d_load
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
muscles trade force for range of motion
The difference between the maximum and minimum values.
