med.nerve-conduction-velocity Calculator
Calculates motor or sensory nerve conduction velocity from stimulation distance and latency difference, and compares to normal reference ranges. NCV below 70% of normal lower limits is diagnostic for demyelinating neuropathy; reduced amplitude with normal velocity suggests axonal loss.
Inputs
Distance Mm
Separation between two points or total path length. Check that units are consistent throughout the calculation.
Latency1 Ms
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Latency2 Ms
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Amplitude Mv
Maximum displacement from equilibrium. Energy carried by a wave is proportional to amplitude squared.
Results
nerve conduction velocity NCV (m/s)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
distal motor latency DML (ms)
Time from request initiation to response received. Composed of processing time, network round-trip, and queuing delay.
CMAP amplitude (mV)
MAP (mean arterial pressure) -- the average blood pressure over a full cardiac cycle. Normal: 70-100 mmHg. Below 65 mmHg in critically ill patients requires urgent intervention.
NCV = distance / (L₂ - L₁)
The computed distance or separation.
normal ranges
The difference between the maximum and minimum values.
interpretation
Qualitative summary of what the computed numbers mean in practical terms.
