photo.depth-of-field Calculator
Calculates near and far depth-of-field limits, hyperfocal distance, and exit pupil size from focal length, aperture, and subject distance for a given sensor format. DOF scales inversely with sensor size — the same aperture gives much shallower DOF on full-frame than on crop sensors.
Inputs
F
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Dist
Separation between two points or total path length. Check that units are consistent throughout the calculation.
Fl
Linear measurement. Ensure consistent units: 1 m = 1,000 mm = 3.281 ft.
Results
near limit (m)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
far limit (m)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
total DOF (m)
The combined total across all inputs and components.
hyperfocal distance (m)
The computed distance or separation.
CoC (35mm)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
smaller aperture
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
