sci.apparent-magnitude-sum Calculator
Calculates the combined apparent magnitude of two or more stars or light sources using the logarithmic addition formula. Adding two equal-magnitude sources increases brightness by a factor of 2, shifting magnitude by −0.753 — this is used when combining unresolved binary star light curves.
Inputs
Mag1
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Mag2
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Mag3
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
combined apparent magnitude
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
total relative flux
The combined total across all inputs and components.
