sci.atmospheric-lapse-rate-moist Calculator
Calculates the moist adiabatic lapse rate (MALR ≈ 6 °C/km, varying with temperature and pressure) for a saturated air parcel rising through the atmosphere. MALR is lower than the dry adiabatic lapse rate (9.8 °C/km) because latent heat release offsets cooling — warm, moist air has MALR approaching 4 °C/km.
Inputs
T C
Thermal state of the substance. Check whether the formula needs Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin (K = °C + 273.15).
Z M
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Rh Pct
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
moist adiabatic lapse rate (°C/km)
The value at the specified point or condition.
dry adiabatic lapse rate (°C/km)
The value at the specified point or condition.
estimated temp at altitude z (°C)
The value at the specified point or condition.
saturation vapour pressure es (Pa)
How close the system is to its capacity limit. Above 80% sustained saturation typically leads to queuing and latency spikes.
mixing ratio ws (kg/kg)
The proportional relationship between two quantities.
stability
Measure of how robust the system, structure, or process is to perturbations. Low stability means small changes can cause large deviations.
