sci.battery-ragone-plot Calculator
Plots the Ragone chart of specific energy (Wh/kg) vs specific power (W/kg) for energy storage technologies and interpolates the position of a battery design. Lithium-ion: 150–250 Wh/kg at 100–500 W/kg — capacitors offer 0.1 Wh/kg but 10,000 W/kg for rapid pulse applications.
Inputs
Energy Density Wh Kg
Capacity to do work (J or kWh). Conserved — converts between forms but total stays constant in a closed system.
Power Density W Kg
Rate of energy transfer (W). P = V×I (electrical). P = F×v (mechanical). 1 horsepower ≈ 746 W.
Mass Kg
Total mass (kg). Distinct from weight — weight = mass × gravity. Mass is constant; weight varies with location.
Results
total energy (kWh)
The combined total across all inputs and components.
total peak power (kW)
The combined total across all inputs and components.
discharge time at rated power (hr)
The computed duration or time value.
C-rate at rated power
The value at the specified point or condition.
Ragone chart region
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
range estimate (EV at 200Wh/km)
The difference between the maximum and minimum values.
