sci.Bernoulli-flow-restriction Calculator
Calculates fluid velocity and pressure downstream of a flow restriction (Venturi, orifice) using Bernoulli's equation and continuity. Bernoulli's equation assumes inviscid, incompressible, steady flow — real orifice meters require a discharge coefficient Cd ≈ 0.6–0.9 to correct for vena contracta and friction.
Inputs
P1 Kpa
Force per unit area (Pa). Atmospheric pressure at sea level: 101,325 Pa. Check whether gauge or absolute pressure is required.
V1 M S
Speed in a specified direction (m/s). Required for momentum, kinetic energy, and wave calculations.
Z1 M
Vertical measurement. For health calculators, typically standing height without shoes.
P2 Kpa
Force per unit area (Pa). Atmospheric pressure at sea level: 101,325 Pa. Check whether gauge or absolute pressure is required.
Z2 M
Vertical measurement. For health calculators, typically standing height without shoes.
Rho Kg M3
Mass per unit volume (kg/m³). Water: 1,000. Air: 1.225. Steel: 7,850. Affects buoyancy, flow, and structural loads.
Results
downstream velocity v₂ (m/s)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
total head upstream H₁ (m)
The combined total across all inputs and components.
total head downstream H₂ (m)
The combined total across all inputs and components.
head loss (m)
The decrease or degradation from the baseline.
P₁/ρg + v₁²/2g + z₁ = P₂/ρg + v₂²/2g + z₂
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
