sci.boiling-heat-flux-Zuber Calculator
Calculates the maximum (critical) heat flux for nucleate boiling using the Zuber correlation: q''max = 0.131 × h_fg × ρ_v × (σg(ρ_l−ρ_v)/ρ_v²)^(1/4). Critical heat flux for water at 1 atm ≈ 1.2 MW/m² — exceeding this causes transition to film boiling (Leidenfrost effect), dramatically reducing heat transfer and potentially melting the heater.
Inputs
H Fg J Kg
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Rho L Kg M3
Mass per unit volume (kg/m³). Water: 1,000. Air: 1.225. Steel: 7,850. Affects buoyancy, flow, and structural loads.
Rho V Kg M3
Mass per unit volume (kg/m³). Water: 1,000. Air: 1.225. Steel: 7,850. Affects buoyancy, flow, and structural loads.
Sigma N M
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
G M S2
Rate of velocity change (m/s²). Earth's gravity: 9.81 m/s². Objects in free fall accelerate at this rate.
