sci.CSTR-PFR-conversion Calculator
Compares CSTR and PFR conversion at the same Damköhler number Da = k×τ and determines which reactor achieves higher conversion for a given reaction order. PFR always outperforms CSTR for positive-order reactions — a CSTR requires larger volume than a PFR for the same conversion because it operates at exit (lower) concentration throughout.
Inputs
K Rate Per S
Amount per unit of time or per unit quantity. Check the denominator before interpreting.
Tau S
Duration of the process. Make sure units match the rate inputs (seconds, minutes, or hours).
Reactor Type
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
conversion X
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
Damköhler number Da = k·τ
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
CSTR conversion at same τ
The value at the specified point or condition.
PFR conversion at same τ
The value at the specified point or condition.
CSTR: X = kτ/(1+kτ) | PFR: X = 1−e^−kτ
