sci.depth-of-field-photography Calculator
Calculates depth of field, hyperfocal distance, and near/far limits of acceptable focus from aperture, focal length, and subject distance. Circle of confusion: 0.03 mm for full-frame sensors — depth of field doubles when subject distance doubles; halves when aperture halves (f-number doubles).
Inputs
F Mm
Linear measurement. Ensure consistent units: 1 m = 1,000 mm = 3.281 ft.
N Aperture
Count of items or occurrences.
D Focus M
Separation between two points or total path length. Check that units are consistent throughout the calculation.
C Mm
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
hyperfocal distance H (m)
The computed distance or separation.
near DoF limit Dn (m)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
far DoF limit Df (m)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
