sci.doppler-effect-wavelength Calculator
Calculates Doppler-shifted wavelength for a moving source and/or observer: λ_obs = λ_emitted × (v ± v_observer)/(v ± v_source). Radar speed guns measure the Doppler shift of reflected microwaves — a car approaching at 30 m/s reflects 24 GHz radar at 24.000002 GHz (a 2.4 kHz shift).
Inputs
Source Frequency Hz
Cycles per second (Hz). Audible sound: 20 Hz – 20 kHz. Make sure units match what the formula expects.
Source Velocity M S
Speed in a specified direction (m/s). Required for momentum, kinetic energy, and wave calculations.
Observer Velocity M S
Speed in a specified direction (m/s). Required for momentum, kinetic energy, and wave calculations.
Medium Speed M S
Rate of movement. 1 m/s = 3.6 km/h = 2.237 mph.
