sci.drill-core-rqd Calculator
Calculates rock quality designation RQD = (sum of intact core pieces > 100 mm)/total core run × 100, from drill core logging. RQD > 90% is excellent; < 25% is very poor — RQD is the primary input to Rock Mass Rating (RMR) and Q-system classification for underground excavation design.
Inputs
Total Core Run M
Linear measurement. Ensure consistent units: 1 m = 1,000 mm = 3.281 ft.
Pieces Gt100Mm
Count of items or occurrences.
Avg Piece Length Mm
Linear measurement. Ensure consistent units: 1 m = 1,000 mm = 3.281 ft.
Results
RQD (%)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
sum of qualifying pieces (mm)
The arithmetic total of all input values.
rock quality
A qualitative assessment of how the result compares to the desired standard or benchmark.
RQD = Σ(pieces >100mm) / run length × 100
The computed linear length.
RQD use
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
minimum for tunnelling
The smallest value in the dataset or feasible range.
