sci.fatigue-SN-curve-Basquin Calculator
Calculates fatigue life from the S-N (Wöhler) curve: N = (σ_f'/σ)^(1/b), where σ_f' is fatigue strength coefficient and b is the fatigue strength exponent. Steel has an endurance limit σ_e ≈ 0.5×UTS at 10⁶ cycles — aluminium has no true endurance limit and shows continuous strength reduction beyond 10⁸ cycles.
Inputs
Sigma F Prime Mpa
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
B
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
N Cycles
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
stress amplitude σa at N cycles (MPa)
Internal force per unit area (Pa or MPa). Must stay below yield strength in service. Beyond yield: permanent deformation. Beyond tensile strength: fracture.
endurance limit estimate Se at 10⁶ (MPa)
The value at the specified point or condition.
Basquin law: σa = σ\
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
fatigue strength exponent b
The value at the specified point or condition.
life region
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
slope on log-log S-N plot
The gradient -- rise divided by run. In finance, rate of change per unit time.
