sci.fft-frequency-resolution Calculator
Calculates FFT frequency resolution Δf = f_s/N from sample rate and number of points, and the required window length for target resolution. Doubling FFT length halves frequency resolution — for 1 Hz resolution at 1,000 Hz sample rate, N = 1,000 points (1 second of data) is needed.
Inputs
Sample Rate Hz
Amount per unit of time or per unit quantity. Check the denominator before interpreting.
Fft Size
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Signal Duration S
Length of time the process lasts. Ensure units are consistent with rate inputs.
Results
frequency resolution (Hz)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
Nyquist frequency (Hz)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
time window (ms)
The computed duration or time value.
FFT bins
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
time-frequency tradeoff
The computed duration or time value.
spectral leakage
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
