sci.fibre-tenacity Calculator
Calculates fibre tenacity in cN/tex = force/linear density, the standard strength metric in textiles that normalises for yarn diameter. High-tenacity polyester: 6–7 cN/tex; Kevlar: 20–24 cN/tex; spider silk: ~40 cN/tex — spider silk has the highest tenacity of natural fibres.
Inputs
Breaking Force Cn
Push or pull (N). F = ma. Net force determines acceleration. Account for all forces including gravity and friction.
Linear Density Tex
Mass per unit volume (kg/m³). Water: 1,000. Air: 1.225. Steel: 7,850. Affects buoyancy, flow, and structural loads.
Results
tenacity (cN/tex)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
tenacity (mN/tex)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
tenacity (g/den)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
fibre grade
Letter or numerical grade indicating quality, creditworthiness, or performance on a defined scale.
