Calculates cardiac output using the Fick principle: CO = VO₂/(CaO₂ − CvO₂), where VO₂ is oxygen consumption and Ca, Cv are arterial and venous O₂ contents. Normal resting CO = 4–6 L/min — during maximal exercise, trained athletes can achieve CO > 25 L/min.
