sci.irrigation-water-requirement Calculator
Calculates crop irrigation water requirement from reference evapotranspiration, crop coefficient, and effective rainfall using the FAO-56 approach. ET₀ is driven by solar radiation, temperature, wind, and humidity — Kc varies from 0.3 (bare soil) to 1.2 (full crop canopy).
Inputs
Evapotranspiration Mm Day
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Crop Coefficient Kc
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Effective Rainfall Mm Day
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Field Area Ha
Two-dimensional surface extent (m²). For complex shapes, break into simpler sub-shapes and sum.
Irrigation Efficiency Pct
Useful output divided by total input, as a percentage. 100% is impossible due to losses (heat, friction, resistance).
Results
gross irrigation requirement (mm/day)
IRR (internal rate of return) -- the annualised return rate at which net present value equals zero. If IRR exceeds the hurdle rate, the investment adds value.
daily water volume (m³)
The computed three-dimensional volume.
crop ET (ETc = ET₀ × Kc)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
net deficit
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
FAO-56 reference
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
drip vs flood efficiency
Useful output divided by total input, as a percentage. True 100% efficiency is impossible — losses appear as heat. LEDs: 30–50%. Electric motors: 85–97%. Switching supplies: 85–95%.
