sci.lens-magnification-imaging Calculator
Calculates optical magnification m = −v/u from image and object distances, and field of view for a lens-based imaging system. A 50 mm macro lens focused at 100 mm object distance gives m = 1:1 (life-size) — micro-lenses achieve m > 10× with very short working distances.
Inputs
F Mm
Linear measurement. Ensure consistent units: 1 m = 1,000 mm = 3.281 ft.
Object Dist Mm
Separation between two points or total path length. Check that units are consistent throughout the calculation.
Sensor Mm
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
image distance v (mm)
The computed distance or separation.
lateral magnification M
The value at the specified point or condition.
image size factor (|M|)
A dimensionless multiplier applied in the calculation.
field of view (°)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
1/v = 1/f - 1/u
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
