sci.noise-attenuation-distance Calculator
Calculates noise level attenuation with distance from a point source: SPL(r) = SPL(r₀) − 20 log₁₀(r/r₀) dB. Doubling distance from a point source reduces SPL by 6 dB — for a line source (road traffic), the reduction is only 3 dB per distance doubling.
Inputs
L1 Dba
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
R1 M
Separation between two points or total path length. Check that units are consistent throughout the calculation.
R2 M
Separation between two points or total path length. Check that units are consistent throughout the calculation.
Source Type
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
sound level at r₂ (dBA)
The measured or computed level on the applicable scale.
attenuation (dB)
The value at the specified point or condition.
source type
The classification or type assigned based on the inputs.
point: ΔL = 20log(r₂/r₁)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
line: ΔL = 10log(r₂/r₁)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
atmospheric absorption
pH of the solution. Below 7: acidic. 7: neutral. Above 7: basic (alkaline).
