sci.nyquist-aliasing Calculator
Calculates the minimum sampling rate to avoid aliasing (Nyquist rate = 2f_max) and plots the aliasing pattern for undersampled signals. Audio CDs sample at 44.1 kHz — the Nyquist frequency 22.05 kHz exceeds the audible limit of ~20 kHz, with anti-aliasing filter cutting above 22 kHz.
Inputs
Signal Freq Hz
Cycles per second (Hz). Audible sound: 20 Hz – 20 kHz. Make sure units match what the formula expects.
Sample Rate Hz
Amount per unit of time or per unit quantity. Check the denominator before interpreting.
Quantization Bits
Vertical extent downward, or thickness of a layer. For tanks: affects pressure at the base (P = ρgh).
Results
Nyquist frequency (Hz)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
aliasing?

theoretical SNR (dB)

dynamic range (dB)
The difference between the maximum and minimum values.
Nyquist theorem: fs ≥ 2·fmax
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
