sci.ph-buffer-henderson Calculator
Calculates buffer pH using the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation: pH = pKa + log([A⁻]/[HA]), for weak acid-conjugate base pairs. A phosphate buffer at pH 7.4 (pKa = 7.2) requires [HPO₄²⁻]/[H₂PO₄⁻] = 1.58 — biological buffers function best within ±1 pH unit of their pKa.
Inputs
Pka
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Acid Concentration M
Amount of solute per unit volume. Higher concentration = more solute dissolved.
Base Concentration M
Amount of solute per unit volume. Higher concentration = more solute dissolved.
Results
pH
pH of the solution. Below 7: acidic. 7: neutral. Above 7: basic (alkaline).
[H⁺] (M)

optimal buffer range
The difference between the maximum and minimum values.
