sci.pulse-wave-velocity Calculator
Calculates pulse wave velocity (PWV = √(Eh/2ρR) by Moens-Korteweg) from aortic pressure waveform transit time, a marker of arterial stiffness. Normal aortic PWV < 10 m/s; PWV > 12 m/s is a cardiovascular risk factor — each 1 m/s increase in carotid-femoral PWV increases major cardiovascular event risk ~14%.
Inputs
Distance Cm
Linear measurement. Ensure consistent units: 1 m = 1,000 mm = 3.281 ft.
Transit Time Ms
Duration of the process. Make sure units match the rate inputs (seconds, minutes, or hours).
Sbp Mmhg
The top blood pressure number — pressure during a heartbeat. Normal: below 120 mmHg. Stage 1 hypertension: 130–139.
Dbp Mmhg
The bottom blood pressure number — pressure between heartbeats. Normal: below 80 mmHg.
Results
pulse wave velocity PWV (m/s)
