sci.room-noise-reduction-partition Calculator
Calculates room-to-room noise reduction NR = TL − 10 log(S/A_receiving), where TL is partition transmission loss and A is receiving room absorption. Flanking paths (floor, ceiling, ducts) can limit NR to 5–10 dB below the partition TL — good acoustic design seals all flanking paths.
Inputs
Tl Db
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
S Partition M2
Two-dimensional surface extent (m²). For complex shapes, break into simpler sub-shapes and sum.
A Receiving M2
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
noise reduction NR (dB)
Random or irrelevant variation in the measurement.
NR = TL + 10·log(A/S)
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
transmitted intensity level reduction (dB)
The measured or computed level on the applicable scale.
