sci.Schmidt-number-mass-transfer Calculator
Calculates the Schmidt number Sc = ν/D (ratio of momentum to mass diffusivity) and the resulting Sherwood number for mass transfer in laminar or turbulent flow. Sc ≫ 1 (water) means momentum diffuses much faster than species — for Sc = 1000 (dilute salt in water), the concentration boundary layer is ~10× thinner than the velocity boundary layer.
Inputs
Nu M2S
Fluid resistance to flow. Water at 20°C: ~1 cP. Honey: 2,000–10,000 cP. Higher viscosity increases pumping power requirements.
D Ab M2S
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
