sci.single-slit-diffraction Calculator
Calculates single-slit diffraction intensity pattern I(θ) = I₀(sin α/α)² and dark fringe positions at a sin θ = mλ. A 0.1 mm slit illuminated by 500 nm light produces a central maximum 1 cm wide on a screen 1 m away.
Inputs
Wavelength Nm
Distance between successive wave crests. Related to frequency: λ = speed / frequency.
Slit Width Mm
Horizontal extent perpendicular to the length.
Screen Distance M
Separation between two points or total path length. Check that units are consistent throughout the calculation.
Results
central max half-width (mm)
The computed width.
central maximum full width (mm)
The largest value in the dataset or feasible range.
first minimum angle (°)
The smallest value in the dataset or feasible range.
