Calculates sound pressure level in dB: SPL = 20 log₁₀(p/p₀), where p₀ = 20 µPa (threshold of human hearing). Normal conversation ≈ 60 dB SPL; a jet engine at 30 m ≈ 130 dB — each 6 dB doubling represents a 2× increase in sound pressure.
