sci.Streeter-Phelps-DO-deficit Calculator
Calculates the Streeter-Phelps dissolved oxygen deficit profile downstream of a point discharge: D(t) = (k₁L₀/(k₂−k₁))(e^(−k₁t) − e^(−k₂t)) + D₀e^(−k₂t). The critical DO deficit and its location determine receiving water quality — k₂/k₁ > 3 prevents DO dropping below 4 mg/L for typical municipal effluent.
Inputs
D0 Mgl
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
L0 Mgl
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
K1 Per Day
Amount per unit of time or per unit quantity. Check the denominator before interpreting.
K2 Per Day
Amount per unit of time or per unit quantity. Check the denominator before interpreting.
T Days
Duration of the process. Make sure units match the rate inputs (seconds, minutes, or hours).
Results
DO deficit D(t) (mg/L)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
time to critical deficit tc (days)
The computed duration or time value.
critical deficit Dc (mg/L)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
