sci.tidal-prediction-harmonic Calculator
Calculates tidal harmonic constituents (M2, S2, K1, O1) amplitudes and phases for tidal prediction at a gauge station using least-squares harmonic analysis. M2 (principal lunar semidiurnal, period 12.42 h) is the dominant tidal constituent at most ocean locations — the M2 amplitude at Fundy exceeds 4 m.
Inputs
M2 Amp M
Maximum displacement from equilibrium. Energy carried by a wave is proportional to amplitude squared.
M2 Phase Deg
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
S2 Amp M
Maximum displacement from equilibrium. Energy carried by a wave is proportional to amplitude squared.
S2 Phase Deg
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Hours After Ref
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
predicted tide level η (m)
The measured or computed level on the applicable scale.
M2 component at t (m)
The value at the specified point or condition.
S2 component at t (m)
The value at the specified point or condition.
spring/neap cycle
Sample size or count used in the calculation.
η = Σ A_i cos(ω_i t - φ_i)
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
