sci.van-der-waals-EOS Calculator
Calculates real gas pressure, molar volume, and compressibility factor from van der Waals equation: (P + a/V²)(V − b) = RT, where a accounts for intermolecular attractions and b for molecular volume. Van der Waals predicts gas liquefaction — below the critical temperature Tc = 8a/(27Rb), two-phase VLE is possible.
Inputs
P Atm
Force per unit area (Pa). Atmospheric pressure at sea level: 101,325 Pa. Check whether gauge or absolute pressure is required.
T K
Thermal state of the substance. Check whether the formula needs Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin (K = °C + 273.15).
A L2Atm Mol2
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
B L Mol
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
Results
ideal gas molar volume (L/mol)
The computed three-dimensional volume.
vdW corrected molar volume (L/mol est.)
The computed three-dimensional volume.
compressibility factor Z (ideal)
A dimensionless multiplier applied in the calculation.
Z (vdW estimate)
The value at the specified point or condition.
(P + a/Vm²)(Vm - b) = RT
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
CO₂ parameters
Reference formula or conversion factor shown for context.
